Injury Reporting System
An injury reporting system ensures that everyone in your workplace knows how to report a work-related injury to YWCHSB and to the person designated by the employer.
It is not uncommon that workers get injured and the employers don’t hear about it until the Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board contacts them.
The employer wants to hear about an injury as soon as possible so they can:
- get the worker to medical attention, if needed;
- arrange a replacement for the worker’s tasks;
- make sure that nobody else gets hurt from the same hazard;
- start a Return-To-Work plan;
- meet legal requirements by submitting an Injury / Illness Report form.
Under the Workers' Compensation Act, employers must report all work-related injuriesto YWCHSB within three days, regardless of how serious the injury is. (This reporting requirement is different from the serious incident/accident reporting that is required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
However, employers can easily cover both requirements in a single system.
The CHOICES Injury Reporting System requirements are:
- A written process, communicated to all workers, that outlines the steps to be taken if there is a work-related injury. These steps include (but are not limited to):
- a designated person to whom injuries will be reported
- how a worker will be taken to appropriate medical care
- YWCHSB forms must be available either in paper copy or through the online process. These forms include:
