Writing a Return-To-Work Policy

At the Basics level of CHOICES, you will need a Return-To-Work (RTW) policy.  For your convenience, we have included a sample policy that you can just download and customize to your needs.

If you want to create your own RTW policy, here are some tips:

A Return-To-Work Policy:

States your commitment to early and safe Return-To-Work practices after a workplace injury;

Includes a reference to communicating with the employee during the Return-To-Work process;

States the organization’s commitment to protecting confidential information;

Outlines the roles and responsibilities of the parties involved in return to work:  employer, injured worker, health care providers, co-workers, Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board and, where appropriate, union and RTW representatives;

Is posted in a prominent area (physically or electronically);

Is signed by the highest level of management;

Is dated, reviewed each year and updated as required.
