Results-Based Management requires an organization to know what results it is trying to achieve (key ways in which it is trying to improve) and how well it is doing in working towards those results.
The Board of Directors of the Yukon Workers' Compensation Health and Safety Board will update the following scorecard quarterly so that you, too, can follow how the organization is striving to improve its performance. We will update this data four times each year.
The single biggest expense of the workers' compensation system is typically compensation paid for work time lost due to the injury, which is one of the reasons why Return-To-Work is so important.
The way to reduce these costs is twofold:
- by reducing workplace injuries;
- by YWCHSB, employers, injured workers, and health care professionals working together to help return the injured worker to work as soon as it is safe to do so.

Average Daily Rate Paid for Wage Loss (2009-2010)
Average Medical Aid Paid per Time-Loss Claim (2009-2010)
Another key measurement is the time it takes to properly manage a claim. The sooner this happens, the sooner the injured worker gets paid and the better his/her chances of a full recovery.
There are two key ways to improve this:
- by getting better and faster reporting when an injury happens;
- by constantly improving our internal systems to become more efficient.

OH&S Safety Officers inspect workplaces and, where necessary, write orders so that the workplace complies with the law. The level of compliance reflects on us in terms of how diligent we are in following up to ensure the orders are complied with. It also reflects on these employers' willingness to comply with the law and help prevent injuries after hazards are pointed out to them by safety professionals:
The bottom line is that preventing injuries saves lives, lifestyles, and lots of money.
Complaining about how much money it costs to have unsafe workplaces just doesn't make sense.
Here is what it is costing Yukon employers because safety and timely Return-To-Work are not being given high enough priority in enough Yukon workplaces:
