WHAT TO EXPECT
If you have been injured at work, the following information is provided to guide you through the process of filing a claim.
1. Notify your employer immediately about your injury.
Provide complete details to the employer of the how the injury occurred and provide names of witnesses. The employer has 3 days to send in an Employers Report of Injury/Illness to Workers’ Compensation. The employer must give a copy to the worker.
In addition to the above, an employer is also obligated to:
- Provide first-aid
- Arrange immediate transportation to appropriate treatment
- Keep an accurate record of all aspects of the injury for future reference
2. Seek medical attention, if required.
Tell the doctor your injury is work-related. The Medical Practitioner fills out and sends a Doctors First Report to Workers’ Compensation.
3. Fill out Workers Report of Injury/Illness.
This form is available from your employer, the Board or the doctor’s office. Complete and sign the report if you required medical attention off the job site and/or needed time off work, other than the day of your injury. Provide a copy of this report to your employer. Mail or drop off the original signed report to:

Be cooperative and timely in responding to requests for more information about the injury/illness from Workers’ Compensation.
