Planning
The new Yukon Occupational Health and Safety Regulations contain information on how pre planning can result in fewer on-the-job injuries and a productive workplace.
It’s been shown that it makes good business sense to take some time prior to the start of the workday or start of a new task to discuss details on how to safely complete the job.
When preparing for a workday or starting a new task you should:
- discuss any potential hazards and eliminate or control them where possible
- develop safe work procedures for the workday or task
- provide the information, training and personal protective equipment for workers to deal with any hazards
- workers should inform the employer of any physical or mental limitations which may endanger themselves or others in the workplace
- workers should not be allowed on the job while their abilities are affected by alcohol, drugs or other substances
- ensure workers only operate tools and equipment on which they’ve been adequately trained.
- tools and equipment should be inspected for proper safeguards and controls before use
- workers shall be provided by the employer with adequate personal protective equipment, clothing to carry out their tasks safely
