Workers’ Rights

Workers have the right to a safe working environment.

Workers have the right to know:

  • about health and safety hazards
  • how to protect themselves from workplace hazards
  • how to perform their job safely

Workers have the right to participate:

  • in workplace health and safety programs
  • in selecting health and safety representatives or committee members
  • on a health and safety committee
  • in identifying health and safety concerns and making recommendations to supervisors, safety representatives or safety committee members

Workers have the right to refuse hazardous work where:

  • the use of machinery or equipment poses an undue hazard
  • a condition exists that poses an undue hazard

Workers must report the hazard to their supervisor, who will investigate and remove the hazard.
