Modernization of the Workers’ Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act
We carried out a public engagement in 2019–2020 to hear from stakeholders and the public about modernizing and amalgamating the Workers’ Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act into the newly formed Workers’ Safety and Compensation Act.
The Government of Yukon approved these changes in December 2021 and the new Act came into force in July 2022.
We have summarized the information we received in a What We Heard report, which is available in English and in French.
Policy Amendment Proposals – Workers’ Safety and Compensation Act
The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Act was passed into law on December 2, 2021 and provides a modern, cohesive framework for the primary goal of preventing workplace injuries and caring for injured workers. The new Act comes into force on July 1, 2022. As part of implementation, all of our current policies need to be updated to align with the new Act.
From January to May, 2022 this webpage will be host to the Board’s policy amendment proposals that are seeking input from our external stakeholders. Each month, a separate bundle of proposals will be posted. Download the schedule.
Stakeholders will have access to the policy amendment proposal documents, along with having access to a fillable feedback form. This feedback is key to help inform how these policies are developed and all input will be considered prior to the Board of Directors approving any amendments.
This webpage will also be host to ongoing policy amendment proposal summary reports, providing stakeholders with access to documentation that lists the feedback the Board has received on each of the policy amendment proposals.
