Purpose
This policy outlines how the policies established by the board of directors will be applied, in order to ensure consistency in decision-making and that the objectives of the Act are being met.

Policy Statement
1. General
The board of directors is responsible for the establishment of policies for the interpretation, application and administration of this Act and the regulations.The Act also provides that the board must make all policies established by the board of directors publicly available.
2. Application of the policies
Policies provide direction and guidance for the interpretation and administration of the Act, ensuring consistency in the application of the provisions of the Act, and to ensure that the objectives of the Act are being met.It is recognized that the policies cannot be tailored to meet every situation which may arise in applying the provisions of the Act, and therefore are not meant to fully replace the exercise of judgment by the board.
The exercise of good judgement is an essential component of decision making which must be carried out when the Act or policies do not provide direction in a given situation, or when the situation is unique or was otherwise unanticipated when the policy was established.
In these circumstances, appropriate solutions based on sound reasoning that is consistent with the intent and purposes of the Act and policies are required, and further policy development will also be considered as appropriate.
3. Public availability of the policies established by the Board of Directors
All policies are accessible on the board’s website. Copies of the policies are also available at the board’s office at 401 Strickland Street, Whitehorse, Yukon and will be provided at a reasonable cost.Prior Policies
